Benches, Fort Collins

We’ve been hard at work crafting two unique and stunning stone benches for The Rock Garden in Fort Collins. The beautiful limestone with its light grey tones and a touch of gold was selected for this project. It has been exciting to work with. While both benches are crafted from the same exquisite stone, each offers a completely distinct look, adding its own character to the landscape.

Standard benches made of limestone. Showcased at The Rock Garden, Fort Collins.

The moment we laid eyes on the limestone, we were captivated by its natural beauty. Inspired by its smooth surface, unyielding hardness, and striking greyish-white color gradients, we envisioned honoring a majestic mountain range with our first piece. By incorporating angled textures and the flowing curves of a weathered mountain ridge, we sculpted this vision to life. This bench is a bright and sculpted center piece in any garden. Every line and contour reflects the artistry and resilience of nature, celebrating the beauty of earth.

Smooth bench seat and back. Pillow facing and carved textures around edges.

For the second piece, it was all about the layers. The stone’s sedimentary formations, built up over millennia, seemed to coalesce in timeless layers. Garry brought these layers to life, carefully uncovering their natural textures. This sedimentary rock is primarily composed of calcium carbonate and forms from the shells and remains of marine organisms such as coral, often filled with visible fossils that tell a story of ancient life. The simplicity in its color allows its hand worked shape and texture of the stone to take center stage. The result is a bench that not only showcases the stone’s inherent beauty but also celebrates its history—a truly one-of-a-kind creation that blends art with geology.

Carved layer exposure with smooth edges showcase the stone’s history.
